About Vidyadhar Garden
Vidyadhar Garden is a graceful terraced garden tucked into a valley of the Aravalli hills at Ghat ki Guni, on the eastern approach to Jaipur. Green, tranquil and less crowded than the city-centre parks, it is one of the best-preserved of Jaipur's old royal gardens.
History
The garden was created by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in honour of Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, the brilliant scholar and chief architect who planned the city of Jaipur itself according to the principles of Vastu Shastra. It was laid out as a fitting tribute to the man who gave the Pink City its celebrated grid.
What to see
Built on rising terraces in the classic Mughal charbagh style, the garden steps up the hillside with lawns, flowerbeds, water channels, fountains and pavilions, all framed by the surrounding hills. Murals and painted galleries decorate some of the structures, and the upper levels give lovely views back over the greenery.
Visiting tips
The garden sits on the Agra Road side of the city near Sisodia Rani Garden, so the two are easily visited together. Mornings are peaceful and cool, ideal for a relaxed wander.
