About Albert Hall Museum

Introduction

Albert Hall is the oldest museum in Rajasthan, a magnificent Indo-Saracenic building set in Ram Niwas Garden. It is one of Jaipur's most beautiful structures, especially when floodlit at night.

History

Designed by Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob and opened in 1887, it was named after King Edward VII, who visited as Prince Albert. The building itself is as much an attraction as its collections.

Why visit

The galleries hold sculptures, miniature paintings, textiles, pottery, arms and armour, coins and even an Egyptian mummy. In the evening the illuminated exterior, framed by the garden, is a favourite sight.

Best time & how to reach

Visit the galleries by day and return at dusk for the lit façade. It lies just south of the walled city and is easily reached by auto or cab.
