Introduction

Birla Mandir (Lakshmi Narayan Temple) is a serene modern temple built entirely of white marble at the foot of Moti Dungri hill, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the goddess Lakshmi.

History

Constructed by the industrialist Birla family and completed in 1988, it is one of several Birla temples across India.

Why visit

Fine marble carving, stained-glass windows depicting mythological scenes, and a calm, welcoming atmosphere. The temple is especially beautiful when illuminated after dark.

Highlights

Architecture: Built entirely of pure white marble in 1988 by the B.M. Birla Foundation. It features three large domes representing India's major religions, promoting a message of secularism.

Interiors: The main idols of Laxmi and Narayan are carved out of a single piece of solid marble. The walls feature carvings of mythological themes, historical figures, and verses from the Gita and Upanishads.

Evenings, when the marble glows under lights, are lovely. It is centrally located near Moti Dungri and easily reached by auto or cab. Dress modestly and remove footwear before entering.
