These images capture the spiritual side of the Pink City — its historic and living temples. Featured are the revered Govind Dev Ji inside the City Palace complex, the white-marble Birla Mandir, the hillside Galtaji (the "Monkey Temple"), and popular neighbourhood shrines such as Moti Dungri.
Historical & religious significance. Jaipur is a major centre of Krishna worship; the deity of Govind Dev Ji was brought from Vrindavan and remains central to the city's devotional life, drawing large crowds to its daily aartis. The city's temples range from grand royal-era shrines to lively community mandirs, each with its own festivals and traditions.
Where they are. Govind Dev Ji stands within the City Palace gardens in the old city; Birla Mandir sits at the foot of Moti Dungri hill; and Galtaji lies in a rocky gorge in the hills just east of the city.
Best photography times. Aarti times bring the most colour and atmosphere — always respect photography rules inside the shrines. Birla Mandir glows beautifully when illuminated in the evening, and Galtaji suits the warm light of late afternoon.
